Attractive bright mid red the nose has some little raspberry fruit a bit of tension perhaps a touch volatile. On the palate there is sweetly ripe cherry fruit perhaps some raspberry too the usual fresh acidity of the vintage medium-bodied and on the elegant side. Tasted: November 2018.
A more elegant and more expressive nose is comprised by airy and cool aromas of both red and dark pinot fruit that is laced with hints of forest floor violet earth and a whisper of wood. There is both good intensity and energy to the nicely detailed middle weight flavors that possess a distinctly finer mouthfeel though not the same concentration all wrapped in a lingering finish. This is lovely but it doesn't have quite the same level of underlying material. (Drink starting 2024)
The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Etelois has a tightly wound bouquet of vivid red cherry and cranberry fruit laced with orange zest a seam of crushed stone tucked in just underneath the fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly chalky tannin on the entry. There is a pleasant sour cherry note here lending fine tension although I hope it fleshes out a little towards the slightly "skinny" finish. Bizarrely somehow this reminds me of a Bourgeuil from
